TETRABENAZINE (TET ra BEN a zeen) is used to treat the involuntary movements of Huntington's disease, also known as Huntington's chorea.

    Notes for Consumers: In general, you should avoid Alcoholic drinks while you are taking Tetrabenazine. Decreased alertness, drowsiness, falls, or other side effects may occur. Do not drive or operate machinery if you are drinking alcohol-containing beverages. If you notice slurred speech, confusion, severe weakness, or difficulty breathing, contact your health care provider immediately.
    Notes for Professionals: Additive effects are possible when tetrabenazine is combined with other drugs that cause CNS depression. Concurrent use of tetrabenazine and drugs that can cause CNS depression, such as ethanol, can increase both the frequency and the intensity of adverse effects such as drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, and orthostatic hypotension.
