VERZENIO Lifestyle Interactions

  • Abemaciclib 100mg, Oral tablet

    Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    Severity: Major
Notes for Consumers: Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while on Abemaciclib therapy without approval from your healthcare provider. Grapefruit products may increase the blood levels of Abemaciclib. This may increase the risk of side effects including diarrhea, pain or swelling in your arms or legs, chest pain, fast heartbeat, breathing problems, signs of infection including fever or chills, cough, sore throat, pain or trouble passing urine, dark yellow or brown urine, general ill feeling or flu-like symptoms, light-colored stools, loss of appetite, nausea, right upper belly pain, unusually weak or tired, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid grapefruit products during abemaciclib treatment due to the potential for increased abemaciclib exposure. Abemaciclib is a CYP3A4 substrate and grapefruit is a strong CYP3A inhibitor. Coadministration with another strong CYP3A4 inhibitor increased the relative potency adjusted unbound AUC of abemaciclib plus its active metabolites (M2, M18, and M20) by 2.5-fold in cancer patients.
