TAZAROTENE (ta ZAR oh teen) is applied to the skin to treat psoriasis and mild to moderate acne.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

This medication is for external use only. Do not take by mouth. Wash your hands before and after use. If you are treating your hands, only wash your hands before use. Do not get it in your eyes. If you do, rinse your eyes with plenty of cool tap water. Use it as directed on the prescription label at the same time every day. Do not use it more often than directed. Use the medication for the full course as directed by your care team, even if you think you are better. Do not stop using it unless your care team tells you to stop it early.
Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 12 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

•medicines that may dry your skin such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid
•medicines that may increase your sensitivity to the sun such as tetracycline, thiazide diuretics, quinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, and others), phenothiazines (chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, perphenazine, thioridazine, trifluoperazine), and sulfa drugs
•vitamin A supplements

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. It may be some time before you see the benefit from this medication. Do not become pregnant while taking this medication. Women must use a non-hormonal form of birth control while taking this medication. There is potential for serious harm to an unborn child. Tell your care team right away if you think you might be pregnant. This medication can make you more sensitive to the sun. Keep out of the sun. If you cannot avoid being in the sun, wear protective clothing and sunscreen. Do not use sun lamps or tanning beds/booths. Do not use other products that dry the skin. Examples include abrasive cleaners or products with alcohol in them. Do not use other acne products on the same areas of the skin as this one unless your care team tells you to use both. Avoid using this medication on skin with eczema because it may cause severe irritation. You can use a cream or lotion to soften or moisten your skin before or after you apply this medication. Make sure that the first cream or lotion has absorbed into your skin and dried completely before you apply this medication.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:
•changes in skin color
•deep grooves or lines in skin
•pain or tenderness of the skin
•severe burning, dryness, itching, reddening, crusting, or swelling of the treated areas
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
•dry skin
•increased sensitivity to the sun
•itching
•mild burning or stinging after applying
•red, inflamed, and irritated skin, the skin may peel after a few days

Keep out of the reach of children.
Store at room temperature, but less than 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Keep tube tightly closed when not using. Throw away any unused cream after the expiration date.
