    • Severity: Severe
    • Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcoholic beverages or products containing alcohol while taking Benznidazole and for at least 3 days after stopping Benznidazole. When Alcohol is taken by patients receiving Benznidazole, an extremely unpleasant reaction can occur. This reaction includes flushing, throbbing headache, nausea, vomiting, sweating, thirst, and other effects that may last from 30 minutes to several hours.
    • Notes for Professionals: Consumption of alcohol or products containing propylene glycol during and for at least 3 days after therapy with benznidazole is contraindicated. Although not reported with benznidazole, disulfiram-like reactions (i.e., abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and flushing) have been reported in patients concurrently taking alcohol and other nitroimidazole agents, of which benznidazole is structurally similar to.
