SIRTURO Lifestyle Interactions

  • Bedaquiline 100mg, Oral tablet

    Interaction: Alcohol
    Severity: Major
Notes for Consumers: It is recommended that you avoid alcohol while taking this drug. Taking alcohol with bedaquiline therapy may increase the risk for liver problems.
Notes for Professionals: Alcohol and other hepatotoxic drugs should be avoided while on bedaquiline, especially in patients with impaired hepatic function, due to a risk for hepatotoxicity.
  • Bedaquiline 100mg, Oral tablet

    Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    Severity: Major
Notes for Consumers: Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking bedaquiline. Drinking grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of bedaquiline and lead to side effects. Your doctor will closely monitor your condition. Report any unusual or worsening side effects to your prescriber, like abdominal pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, yellowing of skin or eyes, weakness, or other problems.
Notes for Professionals: Concurrent use of bedaquiline and a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor, such as grapefruit juice, for more than 14 days should be avoided unless the benefits justify the risks. When administered together, grapefruit may inhibit the metabolism of bedaquiline resulting in increased systemic exposure (AUC) and potentially more adverse reactions, such as QT prolongation.
