BACLOFEN (BAK loe fen) helps relieve spasms and cramping of muscles. It may be used to treat symptoms of multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

Take this medication by mouth. Take it as directed on the prescription label. You do not need water to take this medication. Pour the medication into your mouth and let it dissolve, or you may swallow it. You may mix the dose in a small amount of soft food such as applesauce, yogurt, or pudding. Take the dose within 2 hours of mixing. Keep taking it unless your care team tells you to stop. Stopping it too quickly can cause serious side effects. It can also make your condition worse.
A special MedGuide will be given to you by the pharmacist with each prescription and refill. Be sure to read this information carefully each time.
This medication comes with INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. Ask your pharmacist for directions on how to use this medication. Read the information carefully. Talk to your pharmacist or care team if you have questions.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 12 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Do not take this medication with any of the following:
-Narcotic medications for cough
This medication may also interact with the following:
-Alcohol
-Antihistamines for allergy, cough and cold
-Certain medications for anxiety or sleep
-Certain medications for depression like amitriptyline, fluoxetine, sertraline
-Certain medications for seizures like phenobarbital, primidone
-General anesthetics like halothane, isoflurane, methoxyflurane, propofol
-Narcotic medications for pain
-Other medications that relax muscles
-Phenothiazines like chlorpromazine, mesoridazine, prochlorperazine, thioridazine
This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine.

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.
Do not suddenly stop taking this medication. You may develop a severe reaction. Your care team will tell you how much medication to take. If your care team wants you to stop the medication, the dose may be slowly lowered over time to avoid any side effects.
You may get drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this medication affects you. Do not stand up or sit up quickly, especially if you are an older patient. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Alcohol may interfere with the effect of this medication. Avoid alcoholic drinks.
If you take other medications that also cause drowsiness such as other narcotic pain medications, benzodiazepines, or other medications for sleep, you may have more side effects. Give your care team a list of all medications you use. They will tell you how much medication to take. Do not take more medication than directed. Get emergency help right away if you have trouble breathing or are unusually tired or sleepy.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Changes in emotions or moods
-CNS depression—slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, trouble staying awake
-Increase in blood pressure
-Loss of balance or coordination
-Low blood pressure—dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, blurry vision
-Seizures
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Constipation
-Dizziness
-Drowsiness
-Headache
-Increased urination
-Muscle weakness
-Nausea

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
To get rid of medications that are no longer needed or have expired:
-Take the medication to a medication take-back program. Check with your pharmacy or law enforcement to find a location.
-If you cannot return the medication, check the label or package insert to see if the medication should be thrown out in the garbage or flushed down the toilet. If you are not sure, ask your care team. If it is safe to put it in the trash, take the medication out of the container. Mix the medication with cat litter, dirt, coffee grounds, or other unwanted substance. Seal the mixture in a bag or container. Put it in the trash.
