FARESTON (Brand for TOREMIFENE CITRATE) Lifestyle Interactions

  • Toremifene Citrate 60mg, Oral tablet

    Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    Severity: Major
Notes for Consumers: Do not eat or drink grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Toremifene without talking to your doctor or healthcare professional. Grapefruit can increase the amount of Toremifene in your blood which can increase the risk of a dangerous change in heartbeat or heart rhythm. Contact your prescriber immediately if you experience chest pain, dizziness, fainting or falling spells, palpitations, shortness of breath, or a change in your heart beat (such as a fast or irregular heart beat).
Notes for Professionals: Instruct patients to avoid grapefruit juice while receiving toremifene due to increased plasma concentrations of toremifene which may result in QT prolongation. Toremifene is a CYP3A4 substrate that has been shown to prolong the QTc interval in a dose- and concentration-related manner, and grapefruit juice is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor. Coadministration with another strong CYP3A4 inhibitor increased toremifene exposure by 2.9-fold; exposure to N-demethyltoremifene was reduced by 20%.
