    • Notes for Consumers: Although these can interact, Ionic Contrast Agents are only used in a hospital or clinic during various imaging procedures. Sometimes, Contrast Agents are injected into your spinal fluid through your back (called intrathecally). If you drink alcoholic beverages on a regular basis, you could be at increased risk for seizures if a Contrast Agent is given through your back. If you frequently drink alcoholic beverages, discuss the use of Contrast Agents with your health care provider before any exams or procedures.
    • Notes for Professionals: Ethanol abuse or abrupt discontinuation of chronic ethanol use has been associated with seizures and fatalities; intrathecal ionic contrast agents should be administered cautiously in patients who chronically abuse alcohol.
