BLEOMYCIN (blee oh MYE sin) is a chemotherapy drug. It is used to treat many kinds of cancer like lymphoma, cervical cancer, head and neck cancer, and testicular cancer. It is also used to prevent and to treat fluid build-up around the lungs caused by some cancers.

    Notes for Consumers: In theory, Tobacco smoking may increase the risk of serious lung side effects of Bleomycin. Talk to your prescriber about stopping Tobacco smoking if you are receiving Bleomycin treatment. Discuss any new or worsening side effects, such as a persistent, non-productive cough or shortness of breath, with your health care provider while you are receiving Bleomycin treatment.
    Notes for Professionals: Patients who smoke tobacco may be at increased risk for bleomycin-induced pulmonary toxicity. Patients should be advised not to smoke and should be monitored closely and report any unusual or persistant cough or shortness of breath while receiving bleomycin treatment.
