THIOTEPA (thye oh TEP a) is a chemotherapy drug. It slows the growth of cancer cells. This medicine is used to treat many types of cancer like breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and bladder cancer and to treat fluid build-up caused by some cancers. It is also used to reduce the risk of graft rejection after a bone morrow transplant in pediatric patients with beta-thalassemia.

    Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    Severity: Major
    Notes for Consumers: Do not take thiotepa with grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Taking thiotepa and grapefruit juice together may cause Thiotepa to not work as well for you.
    Notes for Professionals: Avoid the concomitant use of thiotepa and grapefruit juice; reduced metabolism to the active thiotepa metabolite may result in decreased thiotepa efficacy. In vitro, thiotepa is metabolized via CYP3A4 to the active metabolite, TEPA; grapefruit juice is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor.
