TRIENTINE (TRY en teen) treats Wilson's disease. It works by binding to copper and other metals in the body. This medication will lower the amount of copper in the body but does not cure the disease.

    Notes for Consumers: Do not take Trientine with either food or milk. Take trientine either 1 hour before eating or 2 hours after eating. Do not drink milk either 1 hour before or 1 hour after taking Trientine. Swallow Trientine with water. If you eat food or drink milk soon after taking Trientine, the drug may not work well to lower the amount of copper in your body.
    Notes for Professionals: Take trientine either 1 hour before food or 2 hours after food and at least 1 hour apart from milk in order to minimize the likelihood of trientine inactivation by metal binding in the gastrointestinal tract.
