SELEGILINE HCL Lifestyle Interactions

  • Ropinirole Hydrochloride 1mg, Oral tablet

    Interaction: Alcohol
    Severity: Moderate
Notes for Consumers: The use of alcohol during treatment with Ropinirole may increase the risk of drowsiness or excess sleepiness. During use of Ropinirole, you may also experience a sudden onset of sleep, without warning, while involved in activities of daily living. Auto accidents or other harmful events have occurred in some cases. Do not drive, operate machinery, or take part in other possibly dangerous activities requiring mental alertness until you know how Ropinirole affects you.Talk to your doctor of pharmacist before drinking alcoholic beverages while taking Ropinirole.
Notes for Professionals: Patients should be advised that alcohol use may increase the risk of somnolence during treatment with ropinirole. In addition, the sudden onset of sleep during activities that require active participation (e.g., driving a vehicle, conversations, eating) has occurred during treatment with dopamine agonists, including ropinirole. In some cases, excessive drowsiness due to ropinirole or other dopamine agonists has resulted in auto accidents or other harmful events in the course of daily living. Advise patients to notify their healthcare provider if they experience excess sedation or sudden sleep onset while receiving Ropinirole.
  • Ropinirole Hydrochloride 1mg, Oral tablet

    Interaction: Tobacco
    Severity: Mild
Notes for Consumers: Tobacco smoking can speed the removal of Ropinirole from the body, but it is not clear if tobacco smoking causes decreased effectiveness of Ropinirole. Your prescriber will closely monitor your response to Ropinirole treatment. If you plan to stop smoking, let your prescriber know, as the sudden cessation of smoking may result in increased levels of Ropinirole, which might lead to side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, upset stomach, or weakness. Your prescriber will want to monitor your response to Ropinirole treatment whenever a change in smoking status occurs.
Notes for Professionals: Tobacco smokers might eliminate ropinirole more quickly than nonsmokers; the significance of this interaction has not been assessed. Sudden cessation of tobacco smoking may result in a reduced clearance of ropinirole, despite the initiation of a nicotine replacement product. Patients taking ropinirole should be monitored carefully when changes in smoking status occur.
