LUSPATERCEPT (lus PAT er sept) treats low levels of red blood cells (anemia) in the body in people with beta thalassemia or myelodysplastic syndromes. It works by helping the body make more red blood cells.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

This medication is for injection under the skin. It is given by your care team in a hospital or clinic setting.
Talk to your care team about the use of the medication in children. This medication is not approved for use in children.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

Your condition will be monitored carefully while you are receiving this medication.
Talk to your care team if you wish to become pregnant or think you might be pregnant. This medication can cause serious birth defects. Discuss contraceptive options with your care team. Do not breastfeed while taking this medication.
You may need blood work done while you are taking this medication.

Keep appointments for follow-up doses. It is important not to miss your dose. Call your care team if you are unable to keep an appointment.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Blood clot—pain, swelling, or warmth in the leg, shortness of breath, chest pain
-Increase in blood pressure
-Severe back pain, numbness or weakness of the hands, arms, legs, or feet, loss of coordination, loss of bowel or bladder control
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Bone pain
-Dizziness
-Fatigue
-Headache
-Joint pain
-Muscle pain
-Stomach pain
