    • Severity: Severe
    • Notes for Consumers: Avoid this combination. Marijuana and this medicine are very similar and combining them may cause serious side effects. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this combination will affect you. Contact your health care provider right away if you notice slurred speech, confusion, severe drowsiness, increased heart rate, or any other new or unusual side effects.
    • Notes for Professionals: A patient taking dronabinol should not be treated with other cannabinoids and should not use marijuana in any form. Combining cannabinoids will lead to an increase in psychotoxic effects and would not represent any therapeutic benefit to the patient.

  • Dronabinol 5mg/1mL, Oral solution

    • Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    • Severity: Major
    • Notes for Consumers: Do not take grapefruit juice together with Dronabinol, THC without approval from your prescriber. You may feel drowsy or more tired when taking grapefruit juice together with Dronabinol, THC. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how grapefruit juice and Dronabinol, THC affect you. Discuss any new or worsening side effects, such as dizziness, drowsiness, and trouble concentrating with your health care provider.
    • Notes for Professionals: Use caution if coadministration of dronabinol with grapefruit juice is necessary, and monitor for an increase in dronabinol-related adverse reactions (e.g., feeling high, dizziness, confusion, somnolence). Dronabinol is a CYP2C9 and 3A4 substrate; grapefruit juice is a moderate inhibitor of CYP2C9 in vitro, and a strong 3A4 inhibitor. Concomitant use may result in elevated plasma concentrations of dronabinol.

    • Notes for Consumers: Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking Dronabinol. Alcohol may increase the risk of side effects from Dronabinol. Decreased alertness, dizziness, drowsiness, falls, or other side effects may occur. Do not drive or operate machinery if you are drinking alcohol-containing beverages. You should not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any hazardous activity while receiving Dronabinol unless you are certain this drug does not affect your ability to do so.
    • Notes for Professionals: Patients receiving dronabinol should avoid alcohol due to the increased incidence of CNS effects, which include psychomotor impairment, sedation, and changes in mood and behavior.
