It may also be used to prevent the lining of the uterus from becoming too thick in people taking estrogen after menopause. It works by increasing levels of the hormone progestin in the body. This medication is a progestin hormone.

· Notes for Professionals: Coadministration of medroxyprogesterone, a CYP3A substrate with grapefruit juice, a strong CYP3A inhibitor should be avoided since it is expected to increase concentrations of medroxyprogesterone acetate. Formal drug interaction studies have not been conducted; however, medroxyprogesterone is metabolized primarily by hydroxylation via the CYP3A4 in vitro.
