Sometimes, Contrast Agents are injected into your spinal fluid through your back (called intrathecally). If you drink alcoholic beverages on a regular basis, you could be at increased risk for seizures if a Contrast Agent is given through your back. If you frequently drink alcoholic beverages, discuss the use of Contrast Agents with your health care provider before any exams or procedures.• Notes for Professionals: Ethanol abuse or abrupt discontinuation of chronic ethanol use has been associated with seizures and fatalities; intrathecal ionic contrast agents should be administered cautiously in patients who chronically abuse alcohol.
