LANSOPRAZOLE (lan SOE pra zole) treats heartburn, stomach ulcers, reflux disease, or other conditions that cause too much stomach acid. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. It belongs to a group of medications called PPIs.

    Severity: Major
    Notes for Consumers: Food may decrease the amount of Lansoprazole absorbed by the stomach, which can decrease the acid reducing effects of Lansoprazole. To limit this interaction, take Lansoprazole on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes prior to a meal whenever possible.
    Notes for Professionals: Administer on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before meals. If given once daily, administer before the first meal of the day. Antacids were used concomitantly with lansoprazole in clinical trials.
