Nifurtimox 120mg, Oral tablet
• Interaction: Alcohol• Severity: Severe• Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcoholic beverages or products containing alcohol while taking Nifurtimox. When Alcohol is taken by patients receiving Nifurtimox, an extremely unpleasant reaction can occur. This reaction includes flushing, throbbing headache, nausea, vomiting, sweating, thirst, and other effects that may last from 30 minutes to several hours.• Notes for Professionals: Nifurtimox is contraindicated in patients who consume alcohol during treatment. Concomitant use of nifurtimox with alcohol may increase the incidence and severity of undesirable effects (i.e., abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and flushing) similar to other nitrofurans and nitroheterocyclic compounds.
