GEMFIBROZIL (jem FI broe zil) can help lower blood fats and cholesterol for people who are at risk of getting inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) from having very high amounts of fats in their blood. This medicine is only for patients whose blood fats are not controlled by diet.

    Notes for Consumers: The effects of marijuana may be increased and side effects may get worse if it is combined with this medicine. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this combination will affect you. Contact your health care provider right away if you notice slurred speech, confusion, severe drowsiness, increased heart rate, or any other new or unusual side effects.
    Notes for Professionals: Use caution if coadministration of marijuana with gemfibrozil is necessary and monitor for an increase in marijuana-related adverse reactions (e.g., feeling high, dizziness, confusion, somnolence). Of the over 70 phytocannabinoids in marijuana, delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and cannibinol are the 3 main constituents. Certain cannabionoids are CYP2C9 and 3A4 substrates; gemfibrozil is a weak inhibitor of CYP2C9. Concomitant use may result in elevated plasma concentrations of certain cannabinoids found in marijuana.
