FOMEPIZOLE is used to treat ethylene glycol or methanol poisoning. Ethylene glycol is found in antifreeze and coolants. Methanol may be found in windshield wiper fluid and many cleaning solutions.

· Notes for Consumers: Fomepizole (Antizol) is mainly used in a hospital or clinic to treat ethylene glycol (a component of antifreeze) or methanol poisoning. Using Fomepizole and Ethanol together can cause an increase in blood levels of both Fomepizole and Ethanol. Let the health care provider know if Ethanol has been consumed.
· Notes for Professionals: In healthy volunteers, moderate oral doses of fomepizole significantly reduced the rate of elimination of ethanol by approximately 40%. Similarly, ethanol decreased the rate of elimination of fomepizole by approximately 50%. Both interactions occur via alcohol dehydrogenase inhibition.
