DOCUSATE (doc CUE sayt) prevents and treats occasional constipation. It works by softening the stool, making it easier to have a bowel movement. It belongs to a group of medications called laxatives.

What is this medication?
How should I use this medication?

This medication is for rectal use only. Do not take by mouth. Follow the directions on the label. Wash your hands before and after use. Remove tip from enema. Gently insert enema tip into the rectum. Squeeze tube until all the medication is inside the rectum. With the tube still squeezed, remove enema tip from the rectum. Do not use more often than directed.
Talk to your care team regarding the use of this medication in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
What may interact with this medication?
What should I watch for while using this medication?

Do not use for more than one week without advice from your care team. If your constipation returns, check with your care team.
Drink plenty of water while taking this medication. Drinking water helps decrease constipation.
Stop using this medication and contact your care team if you experience any rectal bleeding or do not have a bowel movement after use. These could be signs of a more serious condition.
What if I miss a dose?
What side effects may I notice from receiving this medication?

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Rectal pain, burning, or bleeding after use
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Diarrhea
-Irritation at the application site
-Stomach pain

Where should I keep my medication?

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
