ELETRIPTAN (el ih TRIP tan) treats migraines. It works by blocking pain signals and narrowing blood vessels in the brain. It belongs to a group of medications called triptans. It is not used to prevent migraines.

ELETRIPTAN HBR (Generic for RELPAX) Lifestyle Interactions

  • Eletriptan Hydrobromide 40mg, Oral tablet

    • Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    • Severity: Moderate
    • Notes for Consumers: Avoid taking Eletriptan with grapefruit juice or grapefruit, if possible. Side effects from Eletriptan may get worse if you eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice. Immediately call for help if you develop chest pain, high blood pressure, fast or slow heart beat, or other serious side effects.
    • Notes for Professionals: Eletriptan is metabolized via the hepatic cytochrome P-450 CYP 3A4. Grapefruit juice contains a compound that inhibits CYP3A4 in enterocytes. It is not clear what effect grapefruit juice has on eletriptan bioavailability or metabolism. Advise patients not to significantly alter their grapefruit juice intake while on eletriptan. The clinical significance of the potential interaction is not known.
