AVATROMBOPAG (A va TROM boe pag) helps your body make more platelets. It is used to treat low platelets in people with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to have a medical or dental procedure or in patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) when other treatments have not worked well.

    Notes for Consumers: Do not eat or drink grapefruit or grapefruit juice while on Avatrombopag therapy without approval from your prescriber. Grapefruit may increase Avatrombopag side effects. Contact your health care provider if you experience new or worsening side effects such as headache, fatigue, joint pain, unusual bruising, red spots on the skin, or bleeding from the gums or nose.
    Notes for Professionals: Avoid consumption of grapefruit during avatrombopag therapy. Avatrombopag is a CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 substrate, dual moderate or strong inhibitors such as grapefruit juice increase avatrombopag exposure, increasing the risk of avatrombopag toxicity.
