• Interaction: Foods containing theobromine• Severity: Moderate• Notes for Consumers: Side effects from Isoproterenol may get worse if you take excessive amounts of foods containing caffeine-like compounds, like coffees, teas, colas or chocolate. You may need to limit caffeine intake while taking this medication. Promptly report side effects of Isoproterenol to your health care provider such as headache, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or palpitations. If you are receiving Intravenous Isoproterenol, your health care provider will closely monitor the effects of this drug which is only given in a hospital or emergency setting.• Notes for Professionals: The combination of isoproterenol and theobromine, which is found in food like chocolate or teas, or aminophylline could potentially increase cardiac adverse reactions such as cardiac arrhythmias. -
Isoproterenol Hydrochloride 0.2mg/1mL, Solution for injection
• Interaction: Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages• Severity: Moderate• Notes for Consumers: Limit excessive Caffeine intake (examples: coffee, teas, colas, chocolate and some herbal supplements) while taking Isoproterenol and avoid medicines containing additional Caffeine whenever possible. Taking a high amount of Caffeine with Isoproterenol can increase the risk of nausea, nervousness, palpitations, problems with sleep, rapid heartbeat, or other side effects.• Notes for Professionals: Caffeine is a CNS-stimulant and such actions are expected to be additive when coadministered with other CNS stimulants or psychostimulants.
