RETAPAMULIN (RE te PAM ue lin) is an antibiotic. It is used on the skin to treat an infection known as impetigo.

    Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    Severity: Moderate
    Notes for Consumers: Grapefruit or Grapefruit Juice may be given with close supervision from your prescriber in patients older than 24 months using Retapamulin. Eating or drinking Grapefruit/Grapefruit Juice is not recommended in patients younger than 24 months while using Retapamulin. Side effects from Retapamulin may get worse if you take these drugs together. If you notice headache, nausea, diarrhea, or fever while taking these medicines, contact your health care provider immediately.
    Notes for Professionals: Advise parents that children younger than 24 months should not eat or drink grapefruit or grapefruit juice while using retapamulin due to potential for increased systemic retapamulin exposure. Systemic exposure of topically administered retapamulin may be higher in patients younger than 24 months than in patients 2 years and older. Retapamulin is a CYP3A4 substrate. Grapefruit is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor.
