Riociguat 0.5mg, Oral tablet
• Interaction: Tobacco• Severity: Major• Notes for Consumers: Tobacco smoke contains substances that may speed the removal of Riociguat from the body. If you smoke, Riociguat may become less effective. If you stop smoking, the amount of Riociguat in the blood may increase. Side effects from Riociguat may get worse. Tell your health care professional if you smoke or if you are going to stop smoking.• Notes for Professionals: In patients who smoke tobacco, plasma concentrations of riociguat are reduced by 50 to 60% compared to nonsmokers. Doses > 2.5 mg PO three times a day may be considered in smokers in order to match exposure seen in nonsmoking patients. Safety and efficacy of riociguat in doses > 2.5 mg three times a day have not been established. A dose reduction should be considered in patients who stop smoking.
